Demolition Derby at Utah County Fair

Dallen's 1966 Dodge Monaco with a 318 DEC headers, Ford 9" axle with 4.11 gears.... Yeah it's a mean ride. (This is what Dallen requested to be posted)
The pit crew..... All the guys that helped Dallen and Spencer on the day of the derby. There was a lot of support and help to get the cars running inbetween heats.
Dallen was drawn to be in the very first heat to start off the derby. It was a tough one. He made some good hits but got hung up on another car which put him out for the round. He was left with one more chance to make it to the finals with the grudge match....(he drove out of this round just fine and in good shape).... here are some pics of his hits

...as you can see, this is a hobby that Dallen loves! Everywhere he went he had a smile from ear to ear. Just being out there in the ring with a loud motor gets his adrenaline pumping.

It was fun for all of my family to be there to watch! I think they had a great time watching and Hunter and Easton thought all the cars were cool. My best friend Sami was able to come so that was fun to get to spend some time with her. Kait and I were nervous for our husbands the whole time (spence was in this derby as well) and we took turns videoing for each other.
some pics of Spencer's heat...
During Spencer's first heat his whole tire came off and he was still moving around with just a bare rim and 3 tires.
Dallen and Spencer ended up in the same grudge match. There were 8 cars battling to make it to the finals with the top 2 would move on.
Dallen made a great arena shot and put this blue car up and over ther cement berm. It didn't do any damage to Dallen's car but he got hung up on some metal similar to what happened in the first heat. This put him out again but he had a great time derbying in this one. I was relieved that neither him or Spencer got hurt or rolled. It was a fun night for us all.

The Boys of Fall

It is crazy to believe how fast time flies by. Summer is gone and school is back. Dallen and I were able to go to Hunter's first football game for the season in Price against the Carbon Dino's. Hunter is a sophomore this year and has worked hard all summer lifting weights, running the Loyds Lake dam, going to camps and practices to prepare himself the best he could. He has a heart of gold and is a leader on the field to many of his teammates. Hunter was able to play on offense and defense as quarterback, receiver, and corner back. He worked hard, played well, and said he had a lot of fun on the field! Dallen and I were happy we could watch!

On our drive down to the game, I heard the song by Kenny Chesney "The Boys of Fall" on the radio and it brought back a lot of great memories of past football seasons. I hope that this year Dallen and I will be able to support Hunter in his games and catch a couple of Mike's games as well. Good Luck MONTICELLO BUCKAROOS and JUAB WASPS!!!
"When I feel that chill, smell that fresh cut grass
I’m back in my helmet, cleats, and shoulder pads
Standing in the huddle, listening to the call
Fans going crazy for the boys of fall

They didn’t let just anybody in that club
It took every ounce of heart and sweat and blood
To get to wear those game-day jerseys down the hall
The kings of the school, man, we’re the boys of fall
Well it’s turn to face the stars and stripes
It’s fighting back them butterflies
It’s call it in the air, alright
Yes sir, we want the ball
And it’s knocking heads and talking trash
It’s slinging mud and dirt and grass
It’s I got your number, I got your back
When your back’s against the wall
You mess with one man, you got us all
The boys of fall
In little towns like mine, that’s all they’ve got
Newspaper clippings fill the coffee shops
The old men will always think they know it all
Young girls will dream about the boys of fall

Well it’s turn to face the stars and stripes
It’s fighting back them butterflies
It’s call it in the air, alright
Yes sir, we want the ball
And it’s knocking heads and talking trash
It’s slinging mud and dirt and grass
It’s I got your number, I got your back
When your back’s against the wall
You mess with one man, you got us all
The boys of fall''

Jerome, Idaho

This past week was a great one for me with the fair in Monticello, cook out on the mountain, watching Spencer in the Nephi derby, and now in Idaho with Dallen! Spencer and Dallen are on different crews at work but this week they are located in the same area and are staying at the same hotel. In order for Spencer to crash in the derby he had to take Saturday off, but be back on Sunday morning. Kaitlin said she would drive Spencer to Idaho through the night after the derby so he could try to sleep and I came along to keep her company. The derby went really late Saturday night and by the time we made it to Jerome it was 4:30 a.m.! Our conversations along the drive became more random as it was later and later into the night. At one point in time, I was pretty much sleep talking and told Kait, "My grandma,,,,,she makes,,,,,,pillows". After I realized what I had said, we laughed and laughed because it had nothing to do with our conversation about our husbands working in the heat. hahaha

Kait and I hung out in the hotel rooms while the boys were at work and we had a good time. Monday afternoon we went on a little tour of Jerome (which didn't take long) to see if we could find any antique shops but they were all run down or closed until Tuesday. One of the stores had a sign on the door explaining that in order to shop there you had to call the owner to come down because they didn't make enough money to keep it open all the time. We were a little disappointed in the antique shops and weren't intrigued at all by the offer of the tattoo parlor so we went to Wal-Mart and bought us some $5 movies to watch. We had a great time.

It was fun to be with Dallen when he got back from a days worth of work especially since I won't have the chance to do that very often. We had dinner with Kait and Spence and afterwords we were able to spend time together. We watched the sun go down and due to the smoke in the air from a fire, everything was red in the sky. The picture doesn't give much justice, but it was cool. Thank you Kait and Spence for letting me ride along with you. It was fun to see a little piece of Idaho and to be here with Dallen.

Night at the Nephi Derby

Tonight we went to watch Spencer derby in Nephi. Spencer's car was painted orange and green so Chloe, Porter, and Maclee all dressed accordingly. They were so excited to cheer him on and they all looked stinking cute!

Calin, Janessa, Kaitlin, and Janice

Before we got very far into the derby a huge storm came through town and we all had to evacuate the stands for safety purposes. While we were in the van waiting for the storm to pass through, the kids had fun pulling faces at the camera.

Spencer came out in his heat and looked great. He had a couple of good hits but was disqualified after his engine started on fire twice... In the meantime, I was on the phone with Dallen trying to tell him what was going on and failed miserably :) hahaha I wish Dal could have been here to watch and crash for himself.

The rest of the show was pretty exciting. There was a roll over, a couple fires, and an ambulance run. The driver that had the ambulance was in the powder puff heat, but I think she ended up being okay. I had a great time watching and am getting excited and a little nervous for next weekend's Spanish Fork derby when Dallen and Spencer crash again.
