"Grace Green"....?

SITUATION:
Dallen, as we all know, loves the derby. When we travel we look for cars along the way and when we have a little extra time every now and then we like to watch videos and highlights of hard hits. For the past couple of months Dallen and Spencer have been working in Jerome, Idaho on the rail road and have been able to find a ton of derby cars! A lot of people still drive older cars around there and if they don't have one that's running, there is usually on sitting in their yard or neighborhood. Anyways, this past week Dallen found a car that he wanted to go look at so after he was done with work for the day he drove to the place to talk to the owner. The owner was an older lady who he said was very drunk at the time and looked pretty rough. They talked about the car for a bit and during the process she asked him a little about what he was doing in Jerome and offered him a beer. Dallen told her that he didn't drink and she asked, "If you did drink then what would you drink?" Dallen jokingly said back, "probably milk". haha It was a quick stop and nothing happened with getting the car so Dallen went back to the hotel and that was that...
...The next day:
Dallen went to work the next day and came home to find something on his car... a brown bag with a beer in it and a note on his wind shield that said,
"......... with her number at the bottom: 206-...-..."

We laughed and laughed about it because what kind of a 50ish year old lady would track down somebody's car and place a beer on the windshield with a note saying she wanted to hook up? I was interested in knowing who this lady was so Dallen gave me her number and I called her up. This is what was said...

CONVERSATION:
Linda: Hello?
Me: Hi, could I please talk to Linda?
Linda: Hello?
Me: Hi, is Linda there?
Linda: What?
Me: Is your name Linda?
Linda: I don't know.
Me: You don't know if your name is Linda??
Linda: Well I do, but I'm not going to tell you. Who is this?
Me: Are you Linda?
Linda: I'm not going to tell you. Who is this?
Me: Why won't you tell me? All I want to know is if your name is Linda?
Linda: I'm not going to tell you until I know who this is.
Me: Well my name is Janessa. Is your name Linda?
Linda: No...
Me: What is your name then?
Linda: My name is... Grace
Me: Oh really?! Your name is not Linda huh?
Linda: No, my name is Grace Green. But why are you calling me?
Me: Do you live in Jerome, Idaho?
"Grace"(Linda): No
Me: Where do you live then?
"Grace" (Linda): I live in Utah
Me: So your name is not Linda, and you don't live in Idaho?
"Grace" (Linda): No. Why are you calling me?
Me: My husband is working in Jerome, Idaho right now and he said that he found a beer bottle and a note on his car saying that somebody from this number wanted to hook up with him because he looked like he was single. He had already informed whoever this is, that he doesn't drink and he did have his wedding ring on. I just wanted to let that person know that he is married and I am his wife. I don't want you talking to him anymore.
"Grace" (Linda): Well I don't know what your talking about so you don't have to worry about anything. I'll talk to you later.... Actually, I won't because I don't even know who you are. Bye.... click.

After the phone call, I told Dallen what she said and we laughed about it for a long time. It is quite funny the people you will meet in different places and the odd things they do... This experience was pretty unique I'd say but it added a little humor to our day. I guess I can't blame her for seeing a very very good looking man and wanting to be with him. I definitely have the better end of the deal and am soooo happy to have a husband that preferable likes to drink "milk". This will be something that we will laugh about for a LONG time I'm sure!

Our Latest Projects

Dallen and I really liked this shelf when we saw it at one of our friends house and wanted one just like it. We decided we would make one for my parents since they have a new house and thought it'd be a cool gift to give them for their 20th wedding anniversary which was on November 29th. We got to work after that and here is a pic of the shelf that we built and painted together (below). We had a lot of fun building it and it was great to give it to my parents. They decided to put it in a room by the front entry way and showed everyone that came to their house. It was a fun surprise.

Another project that Dallen built was some benches for our nephew and niece, Parli and Sawyer. Dallen's sister Candis would paint them for us and give them to the kids for Christmas. I think Dallen did a great job and some day we will be building benches for our own kids :)
This medicine cabinet is another project that Dallen made for our bathroom. Our space is limited for our bathroom supplies so we got the problem solved now.... and I love it! I am grateful to have a handy man around the house and we look forward to building more projects together in the future. We are glad that we have the tools that we do. They have come in handy :)

A Successful Weekend

This past weekend was really fun and we were able to fill my cow tag that a drew out for the LaSal mountains on Redd Ranches. We woke up early on Saturday morning and headed to the mountain. Easton, Davi, my mom, dad, Dallen and I were all able to go. Hunter had a football game later that afternoon so he stayed to get ready for his game.
As you can see, we had a successful morning and were able to walk away with this. Here is how it happened: The six of us were driving around to a place where my dad had picked out for us. My dad mentioned that around the corner he had been seeing elk hang out there but didn't know if they were still hanging around. As we drove around the corner, sure enough there was a herd of about 20 cows with a bull right where my dad had said there would be. I was sitting in the passenger seat with my dad's 7mm gun and hurried to get a bullet in the chamber. I had a little trouble getting the bullet in so my dad assisted and I was able to get a shot off. I made a pretty good shot and the cow dropped not too far from where she was standing. Dallen finished her off with one last shot and that was all it took.
As my dad has always taught me, the shooter does the gutting so I did the job with a little help from everyone else. We were able to get the elk loaded up, skinned, and off the mountain to the butcher in Moab by about 9:00 a.m. It was a great cow hunt and just the kind of hunt we needed to get back to Hunter's football game later that afternoon.

Hunter is a stud. Dallen and I were able to go watch his football game over the weekend for the quarter finals against Milford. He did a great job and the team won 38-12. They get to play in the semi finals next weekend and then state is the weekend after that.
It was a pretty windy day (as you can see) but Hunter had a lot of support from family and friends that came to watch him. We are happy we were able to come down and spend the weekend with the family. Good luck Bucks for next weeks game!

Pumpkin Carvings

For Halloween Dallen and I went over to the Ely's house to carve pumpkins. Katelyn wasn't able to be there so we just carved with Tyler. We had a lot of fun and our pumpkins turned out great :)
Tyler had a characture picture of his daughter from Disney World that he decided he wanted to carve out in his pumpkin.... He did a pretty good job but it didn't really look like a baby after it was done. Props to his creativeness.... Here are some pics to show our after-products.

Eddie's Big Elk Hunt

Dallen and I were able to have a great experience as we went with Eddie on an elk hunt he drew out for Mount Nebo. I thought that it would be cool to have the story told from Eddie's point of view so I asked him to write up his experience. This is what Eddie wrote......

It was a great hunt. I would have to say that it was the funnest hunt that I have ever been on. We left Friday night to Casey's cabin, it was raining the entire way up, we had planned on scoping the mountain, to sort of getting a final plan for in the morning but, the clouds were hanging tight to the mountains and we were unable to view the area, so we went back to the cabin. Just as we were beginning to go back up the pathway to the cabin, Dave, Dillion, Mark and Shawn pulled up in Dave’s car and they had been up in the Blackhawk area scoping, they indicated to us that they had seen several
bulls and heard a ton of bugling, they had determined that we start out by hunting in that general area. Dallen and Janessa arrived about 8 and we all went to bed. It was a rough night sleep and I swear that I was up at around 3 just laying there in anticipation for the hunt, we ended up getting up at 4:30 got ready, loaded the horses and started the truck. While we were doing this Dallen accidentally locked the truck with it running and the keys locked in it, so now we had to figure out how we were going to get into the truck, we ended up being able to pry the sliding window open after about 10 minutes of working on it. So then we were able to meet up with the Marvin's, they are just amazing. As they were coming down the road, they had 3 different outfits, with all 3 being diesels, all I can say was it was a way impressive arrival. They had brought enough horses so that everyone had a horse, we split up into 3 different groups, so that we could have spotter in different parts of the canyon. Also when we met up with the Marvin's, Dave had forgot the bullets, so we had to find a area that we could get cell service and called his mom and have her bring up the bullets. The plan was to have Dave and I proceed to where we wanted to start the hunt and that Dillion would wait for the ammo and then bring it in. Meanwhile we went back to the cabin and retrieved the old 30-06 rifle that I have and took it in with us. To begin with, Dave wanted me to use his gun (300 weatherby) which I had no problem with, it was such a impressive
gun and from the night which we had gone and sighted it in, I was convinced that it was a wise choice.

As we went throughout the day, we explored several canyons riding horses and hiking a ton. Everywhere we went we ran into hunters, and we had hunted extremely hard in the early morning where we were trying to get to a big 6 x 7 but could never get within range and it had left the area and went into some other extreme areas. We seen several bulls throughout the day, but
never any in range. Then at about 2 in the afternoon, we had decided to try this area clear down in the bottom and would hike up into this quaky area, but to get there we had the most extreme horse ride that I had ever been on. To get there it took 3 of us (Me, Dave & Dillion) an hour and a half to get there, when we got to where we wanted to be Dave was able to call a fairly good size 6x6 bull within 75 yards but, it only gave me a good shot for about 2 seconds and then spotted us, turned and left the area. We tried to call it back in but it was onto us and would never return. We decided that Dave would go back to the retrieve the horses and Dillion and I would hike over 2 huge ridges to another area so, we began to do that and shortly into the hike my upper leg began to cramp up and it was obvious that there we no way that I was going to make that hike. I tried to hydrate myself up but my body must have been in need of other things rather than just water (salt) so I told Dillion that we would be best to go with Dave. We were able to get Dave on the radio and got back to the horses. At this point I was totally wasted, it was all I could do to get back on the horse, and then make an hour and a half extreme ride out.

Up to that point I had been able to ride a horse normal but, on this ride I was hanging on to the saddle horn with both hands and was not feeling well for the ride out. The ride in itself was tough due to the steepness of the hill and the thick brush and terrain. We made it to the watering hole around 5 and met up with the entire group (me, Dallen, Janessa, Casey, Dave, Dillion, Chad & Mark). Dave had tried everything he could think of, and was upset that he was not able to get me within distant areas that were not swarmed with other hunters. He was just totally out of ideas and was frustrated with his efforts. I could sense his disappointment but I knew that most of this was out of his control. I knew he and the others (Dave, Mark, Chad and Dillion) knew the area and knew what it would take to get the bull of desire. So here it was about 5:20 in the afternoon Dave frazzled, me totally exhaust (but I had not let anyone know that I was exhausted) and Mark
calmly says to Dave "well lets just go for a horse ride and see what we can find". I'm thinking to myself I hope I can make this, so we began a slowly ride to another area. We went through this gate and onto a trail that had absolutely no sign of anyone being in there, we're proceed down this trail real slow and had passed by a tree that had claw marks on it from a bear, which was way cool. Shortly as we passed by this tree, all of a sudden Dave spots a cow in the trees, so we slowly get off of the horses and noticed 3 or 4 more cows and knew that there had to be a bull with them. We slowly passed the lead rope off to the others and we spotted the bull. It then moved up into the trees, which made the shot impossible, so Dave and I slowly, slowly move down the trail while the rest waited quietly with the horses. We went around this point to where we found an opening in the brush and set up.

We then radioed Mark to take the horse and slowly push the elk towards us. So here we are setup, and hear Mark moving through the brush but not seeing any Elk. We wait and pretty soon see Mark but no elk. Then all of a sudden this elk slowly shows himself with the prefect broad side shot, so Dave tells me to shoot and I take the shot knowing that I had the cross hairs place right where Dave had instructed me to place the shot. The Bull goes behind this tree. He then slowly moves out following this cow, so I take another shot, placing the shot above the elk and missing, it then goes into these trees and we hear a big crash. Dave says that it was promising, while I was thinking that either he had fallen or he was crashing through the brush to get away. As we directed Mark to where the Bull went in to the trees we were talking about the shots. Dave and I did not hear the report from the shot, but I was sure that I had made the first shot. I knew that the second shot had gone over the Bull. When we got to the bull I had hit it just perfect with the
bullet going through both lungs and a couple of arteries. So one shot was all that I needed. We took photos, making sure that the first thing that we did was to cut off the tongue so that Christine would be able to eat the meat with us, and not have thoughts of the old tongue hanging out. Casey immediately began to clean the elk and preparing him to be quartered. He, Dallen, Dave, Dillion, Chad and Mark all help in this task.

After the elk was prepared and placed into the meat bags, we began to load the horses. Some of the horses were jittery and darkness was fast approaching. The horses were loaded and we began to depart in different groups. Unknown to me was that Mark and Janessa were have difficulty with their horses and that they had gone down, so now we had the concern of whether they were ok. I had heard the others questioning if they were alright and at that point never knew whether they were or not. Apparently they were ok, but, I was not sure till we were able to meet up with them again at the trucks. Chad had seen that getting the head out may be somewhat of a
challenge and had told Dave that he would pack the head and cape out on his back till we could get to the trail with the horses. This task would be a challenge for Chad himself whereas, the trail was several hundred yards away and the terrain was thick and steep. Part way through this hike for Chad, Dallen heard that he was packing this by himself and went to help Chad. Between the 2
of them passing the head back and forth they were able to get to the horses, which was passed onto Dave for the ride out. Dave placed the head in front of him, with the head facing forward and was able to get to the trucks safely. The rest of us arrived at the trucks at about 9:15. That was
the funnest hunt that I have ever been on. Even though they totally worked my rear end off, I would do it again in a heartbeat! When I called Mom to let her know that we had gotten it, the first thing that she asked me was if the tongue was hanging out, but I told her that It was a tongue less elk cause the very first thing that I did when I got to the elk is I told Mark that we had to cut the tongue off before we took pictures. So off went the tongue and it was so funny. The entire hunt was absolutely great; I am in deep gratitude to everyone that supported me in this hunt.

As I reflect back on the hunt, I can’t help but not mention about a comment that Dave had made to me a few days prior to the hunt. At this point we had done some scoping and scouting of the
area. At work Dave and I were talking about the preparation that had been made to that point when he made the comment “You know Ed, there is more to this hunt than just the hunt or physical part. There’s the fact, that this is God’s creature and if he fills that you are worthy enough, that he will provide a way for you to take one of these creatures”. I thought about that throughout the entire hunt and felt that he was absolutely correct. So on Saturday morning prior to meeting up with the Marvin’s at 5 in the morning Casey, Dallen, Janessa, and I had a word of prayer next to Casey’s trailer. In the mountains at the trail head, it was moreless a prayer of safety, patience and understanding. At no point was it a prayer of success or anything of a selfish attitude but, just a meek and humble prayer. As I was able to reflect back, I could see help from
beyond our control a hand that helped to position us for success. I noticed a feeling of deep gratitude for all that had participated. I noticed sacrifice, patience, and humility, understanding and many other noble attributes. I was deeply touched by this whole experience and feel that I will for ever be in debt to all those that assisted me in the endeavor. I had never witnessed a power, so powerful to touch me so deep to the heart. I am forever grateful for this experience and would do it again in a heartbeat. I felt that every single goal that I had was accomplished, and that it was through the efforts of others that I was able to accomplish this. I felt a helping hand in everything and it was the most humbling experience ever.

Elder and Sister (Gpa & Gma) Bowring

This past weekend Dallen and I were able to go to the Bowring reunion for my Grandpa and Grandma's mission farewell. To start off, most of the family went to Hunter's football game on Friday night in Monticello against Latin Christian. Hunter played great and had some awesome tackles but got a concussion and wasn't able to play after that. It is his 4th one he has had since he was little so he has to recieve a doctors note before he can get back on the field. Anyways, after the game all of the family went to Maughans cabin (kind of by the guest ranch between Monticello and Blanding) for the night. Saturday was a day of fun and very relaxing. Throughout the activites we played horseshoes, risk, sorry, settlers, watched the BYU football game, cooked and ate some delicious meals, and just had a great time being in one anothers company. The kids were all attatched to each other at the hip and played their hearts out every second they could. Another highlight in our family is that Marci and Taylor just adopted little Emry Nicole who was born by Taylor's younger sister just last week. Marci has always wanted a girl and now her dream has come true. She was pretty spoiled with all of us there to hold her, feed her, and help her whenever she made a sound. It is fun to have her addition to the family.

(Amber was working at the hospital at the time Emry was born so that was kind of cool that she could be there to help)

Anyways. we stayed at the cabin again on Saturday night and on Sunday went to church at the White Mesa branch where my Grandparents recently served in the branch presidency for 3 or 4 years. Our family filled up the entire chapel along with 2 or 3 other native families and it was a very spiritual place to be. It was fast and testimony meeting so we were privelaged to hear most of the testimonies of our family and by the end I don't think there were any dry eyes. After church we had family pictures taken, ate some good grub, home-made icecream and then Dallen and I traveled back to Lehi. The weekend went by way too fast but it sure was fun! We love our family and are really excited for Grandpa and Grandma. Our best of luck goes out to you!!!

We are super excited for you as you have been called to the Milwaukee Wisconsin mission! It was really fun being with you as you opened your call and to see the excitement that you both had as well as the humbling spirit that came over everyone. I think all of us were surprised when you read where you’re going but we know that you will do great work there!

Dallen and I would like to thank you for the countless things you have done for us and let you know that we really appreciate your example of not only living the gospel but also in raising a family. We often discuss the goals that we have for our future family and have said to each other many times that we want our relationship to reflect yours. We love how you take care of each other and the way the people in your lives are treated. Everyone that steps in your home leaves with a good feeling and become better people by knowing you. We have especially noticed the support that you give your kids and your grandchildren as you travel all over the place to watch them in their activities and to be with them on days that are important to them. We have loved the personal relationships you have built with us and love the memories we have made. Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers for us. We can feel your support.

We look forward to hearing about your many exciting and spiritual experiences that you will have as you are gone. We will most definitely be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers!

If you need your road hog lubed and oiled and kept in good shape just keep us in mind :)

**P.S.- More pics to come later :)
